Humeral shaft fracture

Bone deformity

Transverse humeral shaft fracture with posterior and varus angulation.

Varus/valgus angulation measurement

We measure the angles formed by the two parts of the fracture. First, the varus/valgus angulation on the anteroposterior view (here, 15°) and then the anterior/posterior angulation on the lateral view (here, 18° drawn in blue). These angles are important for chosing between a conservative or surgical treatment.

Anterior/posterior angulation measurement

The anterior or posterior anglulation is measured on the lateral X-ray. Here, there is an 18° posterior angulation of the distal fragment.
